I enjoyed the park, but camper beware. I stayed there for 3 nights this past weekend. I checked in at the office, gave them my car information. The lady at check-in gave me my green notice and receipt for my site post and told me I was good to go. She said nothing about stickers for my car. She gave me my papers and sent me on my way. On the day I'm leaving the ranger drives by and gives me a violation notice for not having stickers in my car. I told the ranger the lady at check-in did not say anything to me about a car sticker. Her response was, "Well, I don't know, I wasn't there." Well, I took the violation notice to the office to pay the car sticker fees for the 3 nights I was there, but I also got charged a $5 fine for what was clearly the fault of the staff. I honestly believe the lady at check-in deliberately left out the car sticker fee so that I would be fined and have to pay extra. So beware. Make sure to ask about any additional fees so that you won't receive a violation notice and have to pay extra. I think this is a scam to get more money.
We tried to do our first camping trip at Bong mid November, but it didn't work out in our favor. The cable on our camper snapped and completely ruined our weekend. Thankfully we weren't too far from home. The staff was so sympathetic and supportive while we tried to figure out what we were going to do. They even gave us a refund for part of our stay.
We love this state park! It’s a short drive from Milwaukee, for a quick getaway. This weekend we are camping for the last of the season. We came for the Eco-Halloween Hike. There are no bathrooms, and no water through the whole state park! The campground is very packed. There are a couple pit toilets, yet they’re filthy, and full of bugs and bees. There isn’t water to fill up for handwashing and dishes, and apparently the dump stations for campers, is also closed. Signs say, Sorry for the Inconvenience’, an inconvenience doesn’t even begin to cover it! We’ve camped for this weekend and hike before, and the bathrooms were still open. I cannot believe with a very full campground and a hike advertised, this is how the park is functioning. Very disappointed! We enjoy late season camping with our family, and thankfully we are used to roughing it. I can’t imagine those people that were less prepared than us. Such a bummer. I guess we will only camp here during the regular season. They should have posted this info on their website!
Have been there a couple times. Camp sites are clean, maintained, and somewhat more private than other campgrounds. They have a bunch of trails you can walk and even an equestrian trail, dirt bike and 4 wheel trails, a place to launch rockets, and even some hunting. We went for the hiking and camping. We were able to come within 5 feet of a couple deer. I didn't rate it a 5 star because the paths aren't very scenic. They are nice, though.
I would highly recommend this park for everything. It's one of the best!
Absolutely beautiful. The campsites are a good size and semi secluded. There's great hiking and beautiful wildflowers everywhere. The beach is cute there's lots of fish in the pond. They're only two small downsides; a million mosquitoes and I'm not a huge fan of the hunters shooting just down the road from where my kids are playing. Oh and all the staff are super nice and really accommodating.
My family and I love taking day trips from Milwaukee any time of year. There is so much to do here! From camping, to hiking trails, to dirt biking, to swimming, to fishing, to shooting off model rockets...the possibilities are endless!
